Attic Insulation Removal

Removing blown-in insulation from a home or building attic without specialized equipment and tools can be an unpleasant and risky task.

We have the knowledge, experience and  state-of-the-art powerful vacuum equipment to more easily remove attic insulation from residential and commercial buildings.

There are several reasons why Attic insulation removal is not a DIY job.

Problems can occur if you try the removal yourself without adequate protection and expertise.

Do you know if pests or rodents have gotten into your attic space, stirring up dust, dander or drops ?

Might lead to contracting potentially fatal diseases.

Not everyone is familiar with the appearance of some potentially dangerous materials that older insulation has been made out of, such as vermiculite or other materials containing asbestos. Or older fiberglass products which can be very dangerous to work without appropriate personal protective equipment.

In addition, when performing an insulation removal, it’s often the case that the insulation is hiding the joists, wires, lighting boxes, vent pipes etc. Which makes it difficult to see where you can put your weight.

Although it is tempting to try to remove the loose fill or batts yourself and save some money, there is a very real chance that you could end up Harming your self or your property.

When is attic insulatremoval necessary ?

  • Smoke damage: If your home or building has been exposed to fire or smoke, even if the insulation was not directly exposed to the fire directly, smoke or ashes can contaminate the attic space and the insulation. in order to effectively eliminate the smoke odour, insulation removal is recommended.

  • Water damage: A leaky roof or an improper ventilated attic, can cause damage to your existing insulation because of water or moisture can lead to mold and mildew growth. for healthy reasons, the removal is necessary

  • Animal infestation: when insects, rodents or other animals have nested in your attic, they leave their dander and droppings behind, contaminating your attic with harmful allergens.

Attic Insulation Blow-in Fiberglass or Cellulose

There is a few options when it comes to Attic insulation

Attic insulation avoid heat transfer and making buildings more energy-efficient.

On hot weather, helps resist the flow of heat from the sun to your roof through your attic and into the living space.

In the cold season prevents the escape of heat into the attic space, Maintaining the roof deck cool which keeps the snow dry to avoid ice dams and water or frost build up on attics, ceilings and walls.

We can break down the most common types of insulation by putting them in three major categories: cellulose, fiberglass, and spray foam insulation.

Cellulose insulation

Cellulose insulation claims to be the most “green” option; is 85% made of recycled materials like news paper and magazines. Treated with boric acid and borate, making cellulose flame resistant, pest resistant and mould resistant. More dense than fibreglass and with slight higher r-value per inch.

Disadvantage: For being heavier settles and keeps moisture more than fibreglass.

Advantage: Highly recommended on Farm houses for being pest resistant.

Fibreglass insulation is a man-made mineral fiber. Constructed from sand and recycled glass. Is the most popular form of insulation. More than half of the homes in Canada are lined with this kind of insulation in walls ceilings and attic spaces.

Disadvantage: More expensive and pest friendly than cellulose.

Advantage: Keeps its R-value, Let the humidity dries easier than cellulose.

Spray Foam Insulation

Spray foam insulation is the most expensive, but at the same time for having a higher r-value, being vapour and air barrier has a lot of benefits. Making  attics and cathedral or vaulted ceilings bulletproof.
